This 1950s character house is in a beautiful neighbourhood here in Edmonton, AB close to downtown and the river valley! It belongs to my BFF, her hubby, kids and two cats! They did such a beautiful job renovating each space!
So let’s take a tour…

The Front Entrance
When you first enter, there is a little tiled entryway and a nook beside the door for guests’ coats and shoes, etc…
Straight ahead is a staircase leading upstairs and to the right, you head into the breakfast room. It’s the cutest little dining nook with access to the deck at the side of the house.
The Breakfast Room
This happy little space might be my favourite spot in this house!
Wainscotting painted in Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray softens the room and the adorable peg rail allows the space to be multifunctional… perfect for morning lattés or bringing cut flowers in from the garden.
When you have a small home, every inch of space needs to serve a purpose! A pretty vintage chair in the corner can be used as a seat to put on boots, a stand for grocery bags or simply a resting spot to catch some sunshine!
The breakfast nook opens up into the kitchen and there are original built -ins that were also painted in BM Edgecomb gray to give them an updated look.
The built-ins offer extra storage for dishes, pantry staples, cookbooks wine (of course) and allow for pretty displays!
The arched opening between the built-ins was added to create interest, raise the ceiling height and allow light to flow between the two rooms.
The Kitchen
This kitchen is truly the heart of this small home and no detail was overlooked in the renovation!

The Dining Room
There is a surprisingly large dining room across from the kitchen. A wall of built-in cabinetry houses extra kitchen items, kids’ art supplies, and of course wine lol!
The Living Space
The living room is so cozy with an original wood-burning fireplace as the focal point. The Samsung Frame TV above the white oak mantle blends seamlessly and looks like art!
A couple of comfy armchairs are perfect for curling up by the fire and details like a rattan wood holder and mini ash broom hung beside the fire make this space so inviting!
The living room is open to the dining room and makes the space feel larger than it is. And a pretty gallery wall makes good use of the extra wall space.

The Bathrooms
A full renovation wasn’t in the plans for the bathrooms in the house, but each one got a little refresh!
In the main bathroom, painting the vanity white, adding trim and peg rail on the wall, a few shelves, and some pretty accessories made it look fresh and new!
Upstairs the half bath had some pretty accessories and a new light added to give its vintage look a modern edge!
The Basement
Sometimes the basement in a 1950s character house can be a little scary! But this cute house makes the most of every square foot! Large windows bring in light and the white oak floors and white paint from upstairs are carried through to make everything seem bright and open.
The tiny basement manages to comfortably contain a family room, a cute little bedroom hidden away behind a custom size barn door right off the staircase, and another bright and spacious bedroom and bathroom as well.
This room behind the stairs used to be a storage area, but with a little creativity and paint, it’s now a cozy bedroom. It would make the most perfect little office or craft room too!
The Details
I love the way that original features were lovingly preserved throughout this home and seamlessly integrated with new features like the white oak flooring, updated fixtures etc… allowing for pretty views from so many angles!
