Christmas is hands down my favourite time of year. And there’s something magical about Christmas in the country! This is the first year that I’ve been able to decorate for the holidays without a major renovation dampening the fun. Here are some simple outdoor Christmas decor ideas to make the season extra special!

The Back of the House

Create a Forest

This Christmas I set up a winter forest in our new three-season room and I love how festive and bright it feels! It might just be the perfect space to host a workshop or two! I’m envisioning Christmas wreaths perhaps? Even though it’s technically an outdoor space, the vinyl windows and gas fireplace make it usable almost year-round!

I added a mix of faux and real trees. The faux trees are low maintenance and the real trees add a beautiful fresh-cut pine scent. Some prelit birch trees mixed in add extra sparkle. The giant tree to the right is what Mark came home with when I let him go out tree hunting unattended! It’s actually quite cute in a voraciously scratchy and awkward sort of way!

Mimic Snow

Faux sheepskins piled around the base of the trees look like snow and hide the power cords for the twinkle lights! Battery-operated candles add extra glow! It looks so pretty in the sunshine and magical at dusk when the lights turn on!

Add Wreaths

These magnolia wreaths were perfect for my copper-themed Thanksgiving decor this year. They transitioned perfectly into Christmas with the addition of these pretty gold bells!

Warm it up!

The girls love turning all the glowing lights on and snuggling up under the faux furs on the sectional in front of the fire.

Set up Seating

This year although our deck is only partially finished I set up a couple of chairs and a cozy blanket for when we need a break from the winter fun. Faux cedar hanging baskets look festive and don’t require any maintenance.

The Front of the House

Christmas Front Porch Styling

This is the first Christmas with a front porch! I kept it simple with a mix of fresh and faux greens. The lit faux cedar in terracotta pots to either side of the front door add some twinkle. The terracotta is an unexpected touch at Christmas, but it reminds me of gingerbread! I reused my favorite galvanized buckets from McGee & Co. I’d love to buy the Christmas-themed ones…maybe next year!

The peppermint throw I found at Crate and Barrel and the fuzzy white pillow was a Homesense find. Adding a few soft touches to the swing out front makes the whole house feel more warm and inviting!

Decorate The Front Door

I wanted to find something a little different from the traditional wreath to hang on the door this year. The “Merry” sign on the front door was a 30 second DIY. I’m a slightly impatient person so projects that take less than a minute are my preferred type of DIY!! The sign was a picture holder from Pier1 and it came with clips attached to the bottom on a string. I simply cut the clips off and used a command strip to attach the sign to the door. Voila! Custom wooden laser-carved lettering!

I can’t wait until the exterior of our home is fully finished! Next year will be a Christmas extravaganza at The Ginger Home! Until then we’ll enjoy these simple touches!
